Our story.
Picking wild strawberries is not just a craft, but an annual seasonal tradition that teaches us humility and patience.
1892
Purchase of Novak farm
In 1892, the farm was founded, which today is the starting point of our work. From the very beginning, we have been guided by the principle of respect for nature. The farm was bought by Franz Novak from the German Mayer family, who had been present on the farm since before the time of Maria Theresa. From the very beginning, we have been guided by family work and respect for nature and food, which has always been a precious commodity for us. The farm has survived various emperors, countries, political systems, droughts, cold and hot spells, diseases and hardships. And despite the hardships, there has been much work, singing, praying, laughing and rejoicing on our farm. And all this time, the farm survived because it was ruled by the motto: " God willing, it will be done". And he clearly did, because our passion for wild strawberries is proof that it worked.

The natural environment as a key determinant of quality
The Alpine microclimate and the biodiversity of Alpine forests and meadows have an important influence on the quality of wild strawberries.
In addition to the wider Gorenjska region, some of the sites are located near areas of the Triglav National Park, where a stricter nature protection regime applies. Soil protection, controlled forest use and cleaner air create conditions in which wild strawberries thrive with less human intervention.
In these places, you will find mixed forests, rich undergrowth and animals such as deer, bears and birds, which spread the strawberry seeds over a wide area by moving and eating them.
The Alps are like nature's magnificent stone cathedral. Among their peaks, one realises how small one is.
Alpine wild strawberries are a seasonal fruit
Wild wild strawberries ripen only for a short time of the year. Their seasonality has a direct impact on their taste and quality.
In their natural habitat, strawberries begin to ripen in spring. They can only be picked for a limited time - usually from April to the end of June, depending on the location and the weather.

My name is Luka,
I started the Alpine Berrytale project because I was wondering which plant is indigenous to this country, and is in itself adapted to the harsh Alpine winters, hot summers, limestone and steep soils...
When I was a child
I was thinking, walking through the forest, looking for native plants that have already adapted perfectly to our Alpine climate through evolution.
And just as I was thinking this in the middle of the forest, I was suddenly awakened from my thoughts by the gentle and sweet smell of something heavenly. I turned around and saw a bunch of Wild Strawberries not far away.
It was love at first "taste" (well, maybe not exactly first taste), and from there on it was a new story, which I am telling you here.
My mission is to introduce this fruit, worthy of three Michelin stars, to as many people as possible.
